Meanwhile the Finance & Leasing Association reports finance sales now tracking -6% down year on year. 

Cox Automotive releases positive trading figures for November, as trade and retail demand holding up as sector hold for seasonal slowdown. As, Ford extends scrappage scheme for cars and vans into Q1 2018.
And finally, a shout out about Ben’s Industry Leadership Challenge as the baton has been passed to Andy Bruce at Lookers, who will be organising a zero emissions tour of all 150+ Lookers in the UK and Ireland.

Franchised dealers go into the red in October reports ASE, as the average dealer site made £2,000 loss as return on sales fell to 1.01% in the rolling year.

Pendragon to reduce Stratstone premium brand locations, the dealer group will reduce its premium brand outlets over the next three years and is selling its US business. Aberdeen's John Clark Group acquires Morrisons of Stirling, as the dealer group grows with the acquisition of their Jaguar and Seat business.

And finally, a survey finds buyers spend more time researching holidays than cars, Black Horse surveys 2,000 buyers showing more time is spent on holiday choice than researching a car.

The Independent Motor Dealers Association (IMDA) has revealed plans to offer members an online dealer-to-dealer trade-in service as well as collective buying packages from approved suppliers.

The new trade association launches on 5 November and will be hosting a special launch event at the Motor Trader Summit on 21 November.

Meanwhile, Arnold Clark has introduced a five-day working week for new and existing sales staff across its dealerships and Motor Stores in Scotland and England.

In other news, Auto Trader will launch a new search by monthly price function on 20 December supported by a multi-million pound multimedia marketing campaign over the Christmas period.y dealer rocketed 20% to £6.9bn.

Luxury car dealer HR Owen saw pre-tax profit up 77.8% to £2.9m on turnover up 20.4% to £428.2m in the year to April 2017. The luxury and performance car dealer sold 1,306 new prestige cars compared to 982 in the previous financial year, an increase of 33%. Much of this improvement would have been due to growing sales of the Bentley Bentayga SUV.

And finally, research carried out by Paragon found that 67% of brokers expect diesel sales to decrease moderately or significantly over the next 12 months.

On this Saturday’s episode of MotortradeRadio.comPhilip Nothard of COX Automotive joined by Curtis Hutchinson, editor to discuss the latest headlines, Pendragon is carrying out a strategic review of its business as it announced that underlying pre-tax profits for the year to 31 December 2017 will fall 20% to £60m compared to £75.4m in 2016. And, a big push on commercial vehicles helped Ford dealer group Peoples generate record turnover in the year to 31 July 2017 although profits dipped.
Conversely, Inchcape turned in a strong international performance in the third quarter, up 14.6% to £2.3bn.
In other news, the rate of pay rises have fallen across the motor retail sector as a result of the long expected slowdown, according to the 2017 Motor Salary Survey by accountants and business advisers BDO. And, the latest figures available from the Finance & Leasing Association obtained by Motor Trader show that in the 12 months to June the value of used PCPs processed by dealer rocketed 20% to £6.9bn.

MotoNovo Finance has called for car finance houses to adopt a more conservative approach to residual values and the Guaranteed Minimum Future Value (GMFV) offered on PCPs and other products. Whilst, a survey from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) which found that motor finance is used by just over five million UK adults in the UK.

And finally, some recent research by us at Radar Video showed that 42% of the largest dealer groups are wasting budget on Facebook by not using the platform’s tracking capabilities.

Vertu Motors is poised to support its online used car buying service with an “aggressive” marketing campaign following its soft launch in May.

In other news, Polestar, Volvo Car Group’s performance arm, has announced that its cars, which go into production in 2019, will be configured and ordered online using an app or online portal. Less than 2% of the total value of car finance arranged via dealers is provided by companies specialising in the sub-prime segment, that’s the conclusion of a new report from Apex Insight.

And finally, a survey carried out by Cox Automotive found that nearly nine out of 10 dealers plan to review their fuel profiles in 2018 in response to consumer uncertainties around diesel.

On this Saturday’s episode of, Philip Nothard and Curtis Hutchinson of to discuss the latest headlines, Renault, Nissan, Kia, Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo and Abarth have become the latest brands to announced scrappage schemes in the UK to boost sales in the September plate-change and the final quarter of 2017.


Whilst, New car registrations fell for the fifth consecutive month in August, down -6% to 76,433 units; year-to-date the market is down -2.4%, with 1,640,241 registered, according to figures from the SMMT.


In other news, Kia is the most highly rated franchise by dealers in the latest Summer NFDA Dealer Attitude Survey, scoring 9.2 points. And, the majority of dealers are dissatisfied with the new car volume sales targets being imposed by carmakers as they move into the September plate-change.


is piloting virtual reality technology to enable customers to view dealer showrooms on Facebook. The 3D virtual showroom technology has been developed by Radar Video and has been developed to boost dealers’ social media marketing enquiries and sales.


And finally, is opening what it claims to be the world’s smallest car dealership, in a London phone box, in a move to promote its Order Online car buying platform. Whilst, Cambria has reported it is trading in line with expectations for the 11 months to 31 July 2017.


A shout out, to the Jaguar Land Rover Channel Swim Challenge has raised £185,000 for motor industry charity Ben - Jeremy Hicks, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover UK, swam the English Channel, along with 13 of his colleagues in 16.5 hours in a two-team relay on Thursday 24 August.


The Motor Trader Summit has been awarded continuing professional development (CPD) accreditation by the Institute of the Motor Industry.
