On this Saturday’s episode of, Philip Nothard and Curtis Hutchinson of to discuss the latest headlines, as the SMMT has taken the unusual step of reissuing its used car sales figures for Q2, and recalculated figures revealed, that UK used car transactions experienced a decline of just -0.7% instead of the previously quoted -13.5%. 

Whilst, a survey by Warrantywise of 1,320 people showed that repair garages – independents and franchised dealers – beat estate agents into first place, with plumbers taking the third spot.

In other news, Hyundai is the latest carmaker to launch a scrappage scheme with dealers offering between £1,545 and £5,000 on trade-ins across its model range.

Handy Motorsport has joined forces with the Alfa Romeo Dealer Council to bring the brand back to the British Touring Car Championship in 2018.

And finally, the most popular time for making an online enquiry about a new or used car purchase is between 10.00am and 11.00am, according to new consumer research from showroom system specialist Dealerweb. And, Lookers is opening its second multi-franchise used car centre in Motherwell on 1 September. The opening comes just four weeks after the dealer group opened its first Lookers Outlet in Gateshead ahead of a planned national rollout.

A shout out, as dealers have already started signing up for the inaugural Motor Trader Summit taking place on 21 November at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium.

The special one-day event, which is free to dealers, is themed around Boosting Dealer Profitability in 2018 with a series of best practice speaker sessions covering the forthcoming GDPR rules, online customer reviews and social media marketing.

Perfect timing as Ben, the automotive industry's charity has recently announced the 'Hat's on for mental health' initiative will happen on the 13th of October.

David is an ex-AutoTrader director and today he shares how he hid a mental health disorder for the majority of his career to date. David now runs, a service which helps employers to better understand mental health.

Whilst, The South Africa-based Imperial Holdings has acquired Pentagon Motor Holdings for an undisclosed sum. And, the Trade Centre Wales’ first site in England has doubled its monthly pre-tax profits to an average of £2m since opening in April 2017, according to a trading update issued by the group.

In other news, Pendragon has confirmed its latest Evans Halshaw Car Store will open at the end of August in Ashford, Surrey.

Moves by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to assess incentives for sales staff will have a “significant impact” on car sales and car financing.

Whilst, Pendragon plans to open five new Evans Halshaw Car Stores in the second half of 2017. The new stores will open in Ipswich, Norwich, Borehamwood, Dartford and Ashford. And, Dodge is returning to the UK after a seven-year absence under a new import and distribution deal with Auto Export Corporation (AEC). The move will also see the introduction of the Ram truck brand to the UK.

In other news, Eastern Western Motor Group has acquired Grassicks Garage, which holds the BMW and MINI franchises in Perth.

carwow, the new car retailing website, has raised $39m (£30m) worth of financing to fund further growth in the UK and internationally.

In its July dealer market survey, cap hpi found the number of dealers reporting an increase in retained margins has dipped to 18%, compared with 19% 12 months ago. The number reporting a loss remains at nearly half, albeit slightly less than last year (44% v 47%).

Whilst, the majority of dealers (76%) said they expected profits to drop or remain static for the year, an increase of 20 percentage points over 2016, according to the second annual MHA Motor Dealer report.

In other news, Volkswagen UK is to open its first store next month in the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham.

Trust Ford general manager in Epsom Lucy Curtis has been named most inspirational British woman in retail in the Autocar Great British Women in the Automotive Industry.

And, Marshall Motor Group has signed a deal to use a range of data from cap hpi, plus the value of part-exchange vehicles dropped 3.4% to £10,666, according to analysis of 500 dealers carried out by enquiryMAX.
